I think a podcast from the student view could be a really powerful way to market to prospective students - but only if it is "real." That means sometimes you see (or in this case hear) the warts too. If it is too slick, too perfect, then it is just PR and less authentic.

Great stuff, Lisa. I think this idea of being the hub of hard to recreat data source is really interesting given my work with Historic preservation. They have some amazing research on hand that has been cataloged and even databased, but there is no effective way to interface it. that is where patrick's discussion of CMS considerations really gels with this post. namely, you are addressing the essential question- how do we use the collective intelligence of UMW? And the natural follow-up -what kind of CMS do we house it in and why? There is some great synergy on these blogs. I'll tell ya'.

Lisa,

I like your "challenges" on all fronts. Your challenge of discourse on an important subject for the University. Your challenge of blogging and pushing its limits. And challenging yourself to push your own blogging limits.

I think the blogs can serve to clarify the needs that the University has in a new president. However, I don't think it should get as personal as the 2004 election ;-) We should challenge the potential presidents to read our publishing efforts, and I would love to see faculty, staff, and administrators, state their opinions, or at least their needs, in their personal web logs.

Gardner, A link off the To-Done site led me to Lifehacker's blog post about commenting. A good article I intended to reference another time but since the timing is now: http://www.lifehacker.com/software/top/special-lifehackers-guide-to-weblog-comments-126654.php
